Pharr
Chapel United Methodist Church, located at the corner of Federal
Avenue and Everett Streets in Morgan City for over 120 years,
welcomes you to come and worship with us. We are a church in the
United Methodist tradition, and we are proud to be a part of the
Morgan City Community .
Our
cornerstone was laid on April 4, 1878, on land purchased by Captain
John N. Pharr. The owner of steamboats, swamp lands and sugar
plantations, Captain Pharr made his residence at Fairview Plantation
across the bay from Morgan City. A beautiful pipe organ installed
in 1916 by John A. Pharr, one of Captain and Mrs. John N. Pharr's
three surviving sons, is still played during worship services.
Rich
in tradition and history, Pharr Chapel is also committed to embracing
the future and making disciples for Jesus Christ.
We
are a congregation of approximately 350 members. There are two
worship services on Sunday mornings, at 8:30 and 11 AM. Sunday
School is at 9:45, with classes for children ages Nursery through
Senior High and three adult classes: Young Adult, Intermediary
Adult, and Seniors. Bible Study is held on Wednesday evenings
at 6 PM. Office hours are Monday-Friday, 9 AM to 4 PM
Whether
you are looking for a permanent church home, or just visiting,
we will be proud if you choose to worship with us. It is our earnest
prayer that you find your deepest spiritual needs met at Pharr
Chapel. May the message of both Word and song speak to your heart,
and bring you closer to the Lord Jesus Christ.
Office
Hours: 9AM to 4PM Monday - Friday.
